Coppercam is a software tool you can use to camouflage your webcam. It allows you to selectively blur the background of your video feed and make it look like you are doing something far more interesting than what you actually are. Coppercam was inspired by the movie Fight Club, where men talked about hiding cameras from spying wives. It is most effective when used with a mic, as it makes conversations sound more natural for those with whom one does not share a direct line of sight. For many people who have been victims of cyber-bullying or stalking through social media, this software provides an amazing opportunity for safety and privacy on the Internet without too much effort on their part. Coppercam is free to use and has many options for customization, including optional auto-upload to cloud storage services such as Dropbox. It is non-intrusive and open-source, limited only by the user's creativity (since it supports audio). Coppercam runs on Windows, Mac OS X or Linux. Coppercam employs at least one method of motion tracking to analyze the background of the video feed in order to identify moving objects in the background. This enables Coppercam to automatically blur out any object(s) that are moving (only if the user has selected "Blur moving objects" in settings), or that are determined to be not significant (e.g. tree leaves or moving objects in the sky). The software was developed by software architect and journalist, John H. Richardson of Manchester, New Hampshire, who is a former contributor to PC Magazine.Coppercam Website: http://coppercam.com/downloads/ Coppercam on Github: https://github.com/RichardsonJohnH/Coppercam Coppercam on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/coppercamlives/The English version of Coppercam has been mentioned in Wired Magazine, Vice Motherboard France and The Guardian UK.
